Do I need planning permission for a garden office?

Answer: If you’re running a business eight hours a day, five days a week, you may well need garden office planning permission (if the proposed building is more than 2.5 meters in height). Under 2.5 meters, then you don’t generally need planning permission.

Will a garden office add value to my home?

Answer: The simple answer is yes it will. Adding a garden office will increase the overall value of your home – studies show that this will be in the region of around 5%. (Please Note that this figure will vary from home to home depending on location and a number of other factors.)

It may also make your home a more desirable and attractive choice to potential buyers in the long term. With the move of more and more of us choosing to work from home – the need for domestic office space and opportunities is growing. Therefore, a pre-existing office area, either within the home or garden can make your property a more likely investment for future occupants.

Is a garden office worth it?

Answer: We believe it definitely is and as a follow on from the previous question:- If you are or will be working from home, looking into an affordable garden office is a great idea. Keep in mind that the costs you pay when you buy a garden office save you from having to pay to rent office space and commute. So, you should always think in terms of overall value, rather than simply of upfront costs.

Where’s the best place to locate my Home Office?

Answer: If you’re fortunate enough to have a spare room, this would be a great place. It means that you can shut the door behind you at the end of the day and leave your work behind.

With or without a spare room, we make the most out of your available floor space. If you don’t have much room, multi-functional furniture maximizes your square footage. For example – a floating desk is a great option instead of a large, overpowering desk.

Can I convert my garage into an office?

Answer: Planning permission is not usually required to convert your garage into additional living space for your home, providing the work is internal and does not involve enlarging the building itself. (please note that sometimes a condition attached to planning permission may require that the garage remain as a parking space also).

Costs will vary depending upon your own requirements. It is generally less than the value you could add to your home by converting the garage, so this is one project that really does make great financial sense.
